The Digital Dancefloor ::: Episode 005 :::

(Visit the PodOmatic page HERE or download the show HERE)

I am finally shaking off the final dregs of this weeks dilirium and for all intents and purposes have been no more productive in putting together an Original Podcast than the Obama Administraion has been in fixing, well, anything. But fear not, faithful listeners, for the Digital Dancefloor marches on. I’ve went back in time and come up with a fun mix I did in early 2008. It was a back-to-back disc with fellow BeatPimp DJ BZ. His was the “Bangin’ Mix” and mine the “Funkin’ Mix”…
And yes, I do plan to have an Original ‘cast up next week. Something with drums, melody, and a progressive vibe… Stay tuned!

1: Jump Up feat Alex Peace (Acapella)  _ Bissmir & Bam Bam
2: Brazilian Tiger (Original) _ Junta
3: A Day in the Life of Bon Holmes (Original) _ Bon Johnson
4: Clean the Closet (Original) _ Dekky
5: Full On (Original) _ Groove Man
6: People Are People (Original) _ BDG Booty
7: Under Control (Olav Basiski RMX) _ Dekky & Sebastian D
8: Vice (Luke Chable RMX) _ Shiloh
9: Everybody (Do Your Thing) _ Mantrix

Well I don’t have too much to write this week. I’ve been sick in bed for the past several days and finally seem to have kicked the humors to the curb.

And that makes a convenient excuse for me not to have anything prepared for the Week In Review. I’ve tried to keep the site updated but there is so much in the inbox everyday it’s hard to stay on top when you miss a few days. I’ll try get thru it all in the coming week. If you’ve sent something and I haven’t replied or posted it don’t worry, I probably haven’t seen it yet.

After a week of being sick in bed and in no condition to listen to music of any sort, I have finally started to come out of my delirium and climb back into reality. And what better way to start my weekend than with the release out of Bounce House by the Short Bus Kids called “He’s On The Prowl“. It’s a deep house vibe all the way around and the songs all have a different approach. The title track is decent but my picks for favorite are split between ‘Bless The Funk‘ and ‘Do You Wanna?’ … So what do you think? ~ djElroy

Press Release:

Short Bus Kids and Bounce House Recordings are back and ready to kick off 2010 with an EP of the deep, funky, jacking, and techy house goodness that they have made a name for.  The duo of DK Watts and Lance Leber, based in Amsterdam and San Francisco respectively, had a fantastic 2009 with the highlight being an article in iDJ which tipped them as ‘The Month’s Hottest Underground Talent’ and stated they are “…some of the best current providers of bumpin’, west-coast-meets-east-Midlands deep house…”.  And if the ‘He’s On The Prowl EP‘ is anything to go by, 2010 is looking even better already!  Three tracks by the Kids are accompanied by ‘Say No‘ on which DK Watts again uses his relocation to Amsterdam to team up with Mike L, a highly regarded member of the city’s dance music scene and recent collaborator with the SBKs on ‘Things Are Changing‘.

Release Date: April 12, 2010

Wow, Renaissance has sold out to the Green movement. Too bad, I used to respect for this label. If you’re so concerned about being “eco-friendly” why don’t you make it a digital-only release? CDs are dead anyway… Just saying. Despite the gullibility of the label I’m looking forward to hearing the mixes! JZ is one of my favorites ~ djElroy

James Zabiela and Renaissance have joined forces to develop a very exciting, brand new concept to release their forthcoming album, the follow-up to last years critically acclaimed ‘Masters Series’.

In these challenging, yet exciting times, media visionaries have developed dynamic ways of delivering music away from the traditional methods; Radiohead’s recent digital download scheme of ‘pay what you want’ for their ‘In Rainbows’ album is probably the best and most famous example to date. Now James and Renaissance continue this trend as they release the sequel to his ‘Masters Series’ with a dynamic, unique approach that’s primed to change the face of current compilations…

So what is it?
James is embarking on a headlining world tour from March 2010 to coincide with the album, at the club shows the compilation will be given away for free to a majority, if not all, the music-lovers who have bought their regularly priced ticket to the event.

The album will be presented in a shrink-wrapped, full-colour wallet on a flexi-DVD that’s both eco-friendly (50% less carbon emissions) and lightweight (again, 50% less than standard CD/DVDs). Alongside the 2 mixes that comprise the compilation, the package will also feature two exclusive videos: a tour diary and making of the Masters Series, alongside custom screensavers, desktop wallpapers, icons and more!

The real magic of this concept is that the party-goers won’t have to pay more than a regularly priced club ticket for their entry where they will collect the free album. Also, all artists that feature on the album will receive their royalties. This is a point James and Renaissance felt passionately about so ensured it remained part of the concept.

James comments “A bit like my previous Masters Series this mix is another snapshot into life through my ears. Rather than make 2 distinct journeys (one home listening and one club) I tried to carry the theme of ‘life’ over the span of both mixes, this time blurring them together, making for a single soundscape. The fact we’re going to be distributing this mix in a unique way alongside traditional methods also makes this project all the more exciting for me to put together.”

The compilation will also be released in the traditional CD and digital formats affording people multiple options as to how they get their hands on a copy of what is sure to be one of dance music’s most eagerly anticipated projects in 2010!

I’ve been drifting away from my progressive side the past few months but I stumbled across this release today and rekindled my passion for the sound… Very nicely done! I love all the mixes, don’t make me decide which I like best! ~ djElroy

Peter Paul: Industry Vol1 Promo Mix

DJ Grovr suggested I give this one a listen and I’m glad I did! Great breaks mix with an aggressive vibe and interesting track selection. Nice structure, smooth flow, and unique songs all come together to make this 45 minute mix a must-hear for every breakbeat enthusiast.

I’m going to have my ears open for more from Peter Paul in 2010 :)
